Woohoo I now have a Sony Clié

While searching for an USB cable for my aunts Digicam, I found an adapter rated 5.2V. I searched through my database of electronics, and found nothing. After a while, when I was arranging my drawers I found an old Sony Clié, burried away in hundreds of CDs, instantly my brain mapped the query for the 5.2V DC adapter to the Sony Clié. Without hesitation I connected the two and the next moment it started up with "Palm Powered".

It has some basic apps and some utilities. The best thing is the touch screen, its the first time I handled a device with a touch screen. Its fast and fun to operate. The slylus is light and makes writing a lot easier.

A 200MHz proccessor withg 32MB RAM is impressive, making it almost as powerful as my old 266 celeron system. But the question remains, What can I use it for? I already have a l33t cellphone with a l33t camera and lots of PIM apps and more. It has no audio capabilities and supposedly can play videos, without sound. :| Games may be one use :D.

I am still facing problems trying to interface it with my PC as I dont have the Install CD that came with it. Googled for hours and didnt find the software required (Palm Desktop for Sony Clié). May be searching the underground areas might work.

No doubt its another formidable addition to my list of gadgets but may end up being one of the most useless.

Anyway, I ended my 4 day stay at my cousin's place. It was nice to be away from home and the computers for a while. I was able to do some tasks, what I thought were impossible. Going to the gym for a full workout at 5 in the morning, reading novels, staying alive without computers were some of them. I'm back home now and I will try my best to continue what I started.

It was easy the last time

As I mentioned before, I have to develop a website for my aunt's infertility clinic. So far, no progress of any kind. I'm still confused on the template, wether to use Photoshop and make one or use css layouts. Both have their own advantages.

The last time when I designed the college website, I used a CMS, it was easy then coz there was no better option than a css template. I used a CMS coz its a big site and it needs to be updated frequently. This time though, Its not a big site and it contains purely static content which rarely needs to be updated, which led me to decide on doing it with my bare hands, ie dreamweaver and PS.

I want to make it look good and professional, and thus my problems. I'm right now in favour of CSS coz its a lot more flexible, easier to handle and gives me more control over the layout of the pages. But PS also is not a bad option, I can show off some l33t skillz there too, ( I got the Photoshop idea from Virat, who is a l33t3r photoshopper than I am. Hes is designing a site for his college's cult fest. ) but managing the slices may be difficult and aslo I strictly wanna follow a table-less design.

It has been 3 hours and I'm yet to decide on the tech to use. I wonder how long will the design take :|

BTW, monster working a lot better than before, I still get the scandisc once in a while, but I can work on it with dreamweaver, photoshop and firefox all running simultaneously on 512MB RAM!. Benchmaked it using PCMark04 and 3DMark06 and the scores were 4500/5000 , 980/1033 (stock/O.Ced) respectively. Pretty impressive :)

IIIT! Here we come!

Well, not exactly, we are only two. We dont have a clan and we suck ballz at CSCZ (We = me+Virat). If you are wondering what the hell I'm talking about, take a look at the comment to the previous post. I got invited to the IIIT fest this year (no idea who that was :| ). Finding players is not a big issue, but finding good ones is going to be hard. CSCZ is a team game, and as a member of a clan, one needs to know everything about his team mates, their weak spots, their strengths etc etc. blah blah.. We are going to go there anyways, clan or no clan.

The only game I ever mastered was Q3A. That game just suits me at an integral level. It was my flesh and blood for two years. I reached a stage where I was quakecon material (too much?) but then it all ended abruptly :(.

Quake 3 is a beautiful game, graphics wise, gameplay wise and code wise too. It is the only game which is able to boost my concentration to incredible levels, and bring my reaction times to near 0. Even the subconscious part of my brain kicks in to execute the so called "Impossible Rails" and the "Air Rockets". Till the last 6 months (of the 2 years) I never kept track of the mega and armor timings, but when the opponents started timing them, I was facing something on a different level. In the beginning I considered it unfair, but later realized, its one of the most widely spread habits in quaking. After some practice I was able to time them perfectly, and no one had an 'unfair' advantage over me.

My greatest strength in quake is not my ability to concentrate nor my nanosec reaction times, every good player has those, rather Its my Speed! I'm incredibly fast, contrary to what I am in real life, but still I'm extremely fast. Beacuse of that I could easily escape when I had to and attack when I wanted to. People watching my game were always amazed to see how fast I moved through the maps.

When quake gained momentum around the end of my 1st year @ IITD, we organized CTF tourneys between the 4th yearites and the rest of the college, the clans were named "The High Ones" and "ROID" (Rest of IIT Delhi) respectively. Those games were awesome, in the end the High ones won the series. Then, I & DzzL were the fastest in the team, so we had to get the enemy flag no matter what, we were literally the "Bali ka Bakras", but we always managed to get the flag. Our base was defended by Scorpion, one of the best quakers in IITD and the only one in IITD whom I coudn't beat in a duel.

The high ones made a video on those games to commemorate their victory and named it "The ROID wars". Its the Awesome-est video you'll ever see. They also had an uncut version of the video, wherein they dedicated a whole 4 minutes to rape me, showing off my most embarrasing weakness, my compulsive desire to get teh power-ups and getting fragged unnecessarily. It starts after the original video, the credits come half way and roll back, to start my rape with title as "THESID AS KENNY" (ROFL!). They had a dual display there, one side with southpark clippings, the ones where kenny dies and the other side showing me getting fragged in the most ludicrous ways. I never felt humiliated, not even once, instead, I was happy coz it was only about me and no one else, special. The reason behind all this may been the fact that I was the only 1st yearite in both the clans combined or maybe coz I was plumpy. Thank you Zodd and m8al!

Oh! I almost forgot! I never knew what southpark was before the video, I didnt know kenny, I didnt know he dies in every episode, nothing, but still it was funny. That video was the sole reason I started following soutpark.

I miss all that action, its been nine months since my last game. I don't regret coz it had to end at some point. I just miss all that buzz thats all.

Intel was an enormous company. They could build a chip based on the most crappiest design possible (the Itanium) and make it through sheer will power. Except that it doesn't work and it cost them dearly. They could build another chip based on the second most crappiest design possible (the Pentium 4) and make it through sheer will power. Except that it doesn't work and now they are falling behind.

Rock exploration

I had to go to a friends house around 1030 in the morning, but my sleep cycle was messed up. What can I say.. Holidays... slept around 0400hrs. With great difficulty, after making the cell phone go into snooze mode for about 15-20 times (each snooze lasts 5 mins) I finally was fully awake. Bathed and dressed up quick, had my breakfast and was ready to leave.

But, mom's rangoli was still intact and reversing the car over it was a delicate issue. After five minutes and some math calculations the path was clear to me. Started the engine, let it heat, put it reverse, slowly started moving it. Half-way through, I realized I not only was over it but both the rear tyres were on it!! Crap! I could do nothing but keep going in the same direction. Ever so slowly, got it completely out and was out of the car in an instant to check on my lifeline. I live! Nothing bad happened since I moved very slowly, every color was intact! YAY! My l33t driving skills save me again!

With great relief I reached the senior's house, we had to discuss about our plan of action on how we were going to setup the college website. They all finally agreed on my present design, with some minor changes. They were all into rock music, so rock music was on the way. All great songs from the age of Led Zeppelin to In Flames were reviewed. I never listened to most the bands played. I was impressed, have to collect all those songs from him :D.

Coming home late in the afternoon I had nothing to do. In an instant I was on the terrace with my kite and the charka. Cut one kite, lost one, got bored coz I was alone and came back down. Fired up NFS MW, reached till the 4th place in the Blacklist. Guns aka Arvind then came over. He showed off his l33t skillz in evading the level 4 cops and reached level 5 where he was eventually busted. We both then went on to the terrace, again lost one, cut one and were back coz of poor lighting. He dumped all my music onto his HDD, and then we were off to Vik's place for the latest Bleach episode (Bleach is a Japanese anime series which I stared following 2 months ago). It sucked, there was nothing new, it was a recap episode, which lasted 1hr :(.

I have to submit my BEE (Basic elec engg.) assignment tomorrow, and I havet even started it! Im gonna get screwed tomorrow.

Gitex 2006

Me Arvind (greatguns) and Virat went all the way to Madhapur, aka Hi-Tech City to take a look at the GITEX 2006 Trade show at HI-TEX. Its something like CES but at a low level, showing off new technologies in India (may be a year old outside). The first hall we visted had nothing intresting, except for two stalls, one where Snowman heatsinks and cooling tech was on display and the other where in we saw the smallest USB flash drive, which can reach to a capacity of 4GB!

Thext next hall favoured our tastes, with 100s of laptops, desktops, workstations, server boards, iPods, Power supply stuff.. and more! Of all those, what impressed us the most was the 30gig Video iPod. Its sleeker than we thought and the video on that was extemely beautiful. It seems it can even play h.264 content!

Ah, and we also were given a demo on a new and upcoming free Voice email service. He made us talk in a microphone, and mailed that back to us! lol. We are gonna get invites to that service which still in a beta stage :). Crap!! I just realized! we gave them our mails ids! omg, I hope they don't spam us!

I also got home two flashy gfx card leaflets from the Gigabyte stall, gonna stick em somewhere in the room :D. They are about ATi's radeons, but wth, they look too cool (me==g33k)

Laptop that made my computers scream

Woke up very late, around 1230 in the afternoon. The reason behind waking up so early was that, all the computers in the house started screaming, literally. It was Kaspersky warning that there were port scans and intrusion attempts!, In all the three computers! After freshening up, I sat down to analyze what the fuck happened. Somebody turned on the latop a friend gave me two days ago for some maintainace work. Accidentally the network cable was plugged in, and coz my router assigns IPs via DHCP, that lappy was online in no time. It was filled with virii and spyware! and all those were trying to spead in my LAN! They made up my 100Mbit wireless router hang up! It was time to take some drastic measures, I had to introduce kaspersky to that system. I did. It detected nearly 400 infected files, and cleaned or deleted every single one! Then it was time for spyware to go, installed spybot, it found nearly 100 spyware entries! What the fuck was that guy doing on that comp all this time!?

Everytime the lappy booted, It showed a command window executing something, a bot to be specific. It was showing what it was doing very clearly, like when a service starts up in verbose mode. All the time I was under the assumption that it was some software installed by the user (me==noobie! :( ) but it was a virus starting up and initializing its bot!!! and Kaspy took care of it. Spybot found so much spyware that it wants to scan and clean again after a reboot! ROFL! With kaspersky and spybot installed, that lappy is never going to get infected by another virus or spyware! I always trusted Kaspersky and it proved itself again!

After all this, I went on to the terrace to check on the number of kites flying in the sky, and there were NONE! Population in our area almost doubled (with all the new apartments buildings) since the last time I flew kites. I expected the number of kites to double too, but there were none! wtf! Has everyone turned into those zombies which watch whatever that comes on TV?? or is everyone that lazy? or are they just scared that they might get a sunburn? Seems like I have to go to some other part of the city to fully enjoy pongal. I just hope there are atleast a few kite flyers tomorrow to play with.

Safri Duo rock! They are just amazing. Baya baya and Played-a-live are some of the best tracks from them. Listen and you will never forget. Scooter also is a good artist. These 3 trax were on my repeat playlist since evening, and I am still not bored!

Holiday Schedule

woohoo! Holidays! no college till monday! I can do something useful now :D.

First off, the website for "Prasad's Infertility Solutions" has to be designed and finished. Choosing a CMS has always been a big problem, typo3 can do everything but its too heavy, too big, too complex for such a small site. Joomla aka Mambo or Drupal may offer whats required, but they are yet to be tested. Its basically static content, but most of the CMSs seem to be conentrating on frontend-users and dynamic content, something like forums. Its difficult to find a webbased CMS on the lines of Macromedia Contribute, of which core functionality is management of static content and one which has some impressive templates. All this has to completed by this weekend, otherwise there may not be sufficient time later.

Coming to Acads, our objective-type internals may start as soon as the holidays end! But still studying in the holidays for just objective type is in any way not useful. Will just end up forgetting everything. Objective questions are volatile, atleast in my brain. As a result academic activities are postponed till the end of the holidays.

Gaming is what keeps me alive. During the time monster was in coma, gaming came to a complete halt. Now monster is up and running and thus quenching the thirst for gaming is the 2nd most important task to be completed in these holidays. NFS Most Wanted will do the job. Already climbed upto 6th position in the blacklist. Its hot, its gonna get hotter, cars at 200MPH look and feel awesome.

Monster seems to be as solid as a rock, no scandisk/chkdsk yet. Its been 4 days, not a single issue. Firefox is till pissing me off with profile corruption issues. Some extention keeps messing up the profile folder. Finding the culprit is a tedious job, I am not gonna do it since backupfox is working great with this issue.

Its Sankranti from tomorrow, Its starts off with bhogi, I guess :D. However it starts or ends, Sankranti aka Pongal is all about Kites! It been 3 yeas since my hands pulled on a tight maanja. Its gonna change this year. Ravindranagar will have a new kite flying pro.

Its 0350hrs and this is the 1st time I have been up so late (Since college started in october). Messing with sleep cycle will have serious after effects, which I don't want to experience. I'm off to sleep! Good Night! and HAPPY SANKRANTHI

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

The other day, chatting with Harita for a long 1-1/2hrs, digging into the past, reviewing my sins (yea well.. some consider acquiring bandwidth a sin!), I started thinking about 'me'. For a second I assumed "I am very dangerous" (computers wise). Erm, thats what I felt first, considering what I am capable of. But, thinking deeper I reaized, I am just a n00bie (newbie)! and that there are hundreds of thousands who are 1337er (elite) and millions on the same level as me. I'm such a n00b that I dont even know what the elite are capable of and I never had crimial intentions of any kind. So, in conclusion I am as safe as a firefly :D.

Right now I'm extemely Happy!! guess why! I am writing this post from teh 'monster'!! YES! Its finally awake! Its been 4 weeks since I de-commissioned it. Its still not at its full potential though, only 512megs of RAM (1 gig originally) and 160Gigs HDDs (480gigs stock capacity). I finally can enjoy some kick ass games now. Its been 16hrs since it started and it showed no signs of fatigue, no hardware issues, especially the hard disks. I hope it stays the same till I get a new PSU (SMPS). The problem what I figured out was that the power cables were so fuxed that the hdds turned on and off randomly. But now thanks to Gigabyte, their cables seem to be working fine :).

Just started NFS: Most Wanted, cool game, excellent graphics. Shadows seem pixellated though. The bloom effect, aka Extra bright effect looks really cool. The glare, timeshift, police chases everythign add to the beauty of the game. I am gonna finish it in these holidays!

Have some friends coming over, so have to end it here for now.

Ow! God Damn it!

I got ripped off!! 250rs down the drain! fking shit! why? I gave my RAM module for repair ( I know its not normal for RAMs to be repaired, but it was a desperate attempt to revive monster) and that guy said it was working and that he replaced some on-off circuit in the module, but when I came back and tested it, it didnt boot the system!! fsck!! I dont understand, it booted on that asshole's computer. Man that guy is so screwed next time I go to CTC! I am gonna get my fucking money back!! God damn it!!!!

Anyway, was reading a friend's blog, here, tis all philosophical, one point got my attention though. It said "One just needs to work in the right direction without caring much about the results". This reminded me of some sloka .. or whatever they call it, which states something on similar lines. I dont understand, why would anybody do something, if it isnt for the results? You prepare for exams to get good marks, you work your ass off to make a perfect model. Well if you dont care about the marks or the model why in the world would you prepare or work like a dog? Yes I argree, one should not worry too much about the results, I guess its all about balance. This is what I posted on his blog, hehe, hope he understands my confusion.

I will write about my principles and thoughts some other day. Today is not the day coz they may be biased.

Leaving philosophy there, lez get back to the g33k stuff. As soon as I came home I read something which made all the saliva in my mouth drip like a leaking muncipal water tanker left open. It was about the QUAD SLI nVidia is working on. Dell showed off their masterpiece at CES 2006 Dell's Quad SLI , 4.26GHz, Dual Core XPS Renegade System. It has 4 7800GTX512s on a 4-way SLI (Scalable Link Interface), HOLY FUCK! That adds up to 2GB of VRAM there itself!!! and they OCed the processor to 4.26 GHZ!!! KICK ASS! This sounds reallllly exciting but coming out of the dream world, real world performance is what matters. When MS moves to DX10 and PS4.0, this will obviously be rendered "outdated", till then atleast this will be the most powerful gaming machine ever made.

Also Intel seems to have everything going their way now, after the huge failure of the prescott line of processors, everyone turned to AMD, but now they got it right with the Core Duo line, ofcourse they are mobile processors but they offer performances on par with the Athlon X2s. I hope Intel comes with some cool new desktop proccies too!. BTW Intel changed their logo! It not "Intel Inside" anymore!!!

Woke up late, left home late. (Lucky the bus waits for everyone to arrive, I was the second last one today). Got screwed in EDC exam :(. Was kicked out of the IT workshop coz a classmate forgot to bring my observation book he took 2 weeks ago (Passed all the lab time in the library reading magazines :D). Slept in the Mathematics lecture and wrote programs in C&DS class for the 1st time. Was back in the bus.

Came home, had a cup of tea and left for shopping, ordered for a new washing machine (semi auto), bought SOIL (mud, dirt, watever for the garden) for Rs 30/-!. Got my hair cut and bought a notebook for a math assignment.

Came home, ate, browsed slashdot & 9down, started solving my math assignment, got bored and stopped, started writng this post.

Gonna watch 1-2 eps of southpark and sleep. feeling too sleepy atm.

Busyy!

WoW! This is the busiest I have been since 9-10 months, heavy workload, limited time. Exams, assignments, fruitless attemts to revive monster, driver jobs, new website orders and more.. aaaah!! Driving me crazy, I need a full week off, mostly I'll sync my holiday week with sankranti hols.

Never get a l33t phone laminated! Looks cool but will get on your nerves after week. Pics from teh cam aren't clear, and the screen just looks gay with all the spectrum lines visible coz of the plastic cover. I am just waiting for it to tear off.

iPod Shuffle rocks! Its just toooo simple, no frills, small, sleek, sexy, white, long batt life, 512MiB storage 100+ songs, 5 buttons, 1 on off switch and a headphone jack, hps are clear n loud!

I'm off to read something for my EDC(Elec devices and ckts) exam tomorrow O:-)

Flashback (((O)))) {Revolving B&W Spiral}

Yay! the dreaded year has finally come to an end!

Here are my 10 Best moments of the year! chronologically I guess.

  1. Celebrating the New years eve (2005) with 50+ relatives and family members.
  2. Hacking into the Bio-Tech Department servers for bandwidth.
  3. Defeating Attila the Hun in AOC for the 1st time.
  4. Tryst 2005
  5. Signing up to design the new college website and finishing it.
  6. Dolly's Birthday
  7. Completing my J2EE course with a 90% score and developing my 1st ever chat client+server package in Java.
  8. Receiving GF6800GT from mom's hand
  9. 4th day at college :D
  10. Cult Day at college (prev post)

This may imply a happy year but believe me I had far worse experiences, which I decided to forget and move on.

Comming to my new years "Resolutions", They are not "New year's resolutions" but resolutions I decided upon which happened to co-incide with the new year. "New year's resolutions" are crap :P

  1. Be myself, be within my limits, no overclocking or underclocking.
  2. No more Bluffing (which may take time coz I have to cover all my previous bluffs :D)
  3. Will finish whatever I Start.
  4. Will revive MONSTER!!!!! I WILL!!
  5. Acads always top priority. (have been following this since 3 months :| not a bluff!)
