Damn Crawlers!

That is the video of people racing in carts in Runway9. We went to race those small machines there for a few laps. Lots happened. Apart from all the drifting, skidding, Guns spun out and make Vik to spin 2 complete rounds and crash into the tire wall. As Vik put it, noob Guns was stationary at 90deg to the track when he almost crashed. They had a couple of incidents each and they both had fun. I on the other side was stuck behind crawlers most of the time. We three tried to race but Guns' great spin out left us scattered all over the track, so it was pretty much a lonely race for everyone. It wasn't incident free for me either, though I didn't crash I had worse. It was a U turn, and I was trying to pass a crawler, well, he refused, I was on the inside line trying to make a pass, he wanted the inside line all for himself and forced me off the track, worst, there was a manhole right in my path. I was blank.. I stepped on it, luckily got the tires onto the manhole cover and was safely out. In the last lap I was trying to drift, I flicked the steering and it went all the way sliding and bumped into another cart, and that guy crashed into the tire wall, I didn’t hear any swearing but probably there was some he he, was fun though :D. The G-forces were awesome; getting thrown from one side to another is quite exhilarating.

I had this great idea of strapping my digicam to the cart and then make a bumper cam style video of my laps. We went loaded with the camera and duct tape only to realize there wasn’t any place on the cart to strap the camera to. So took the video of other people racing. Notice the crawler in the video? damn!

On a fun scale of 1-10, I rate carting as 8.5, its real fun. Bit expensive but worth it guess. We did 12 laps mind you.

Grrrr....

GAWD! I wanna write so much!! but that will bore you, so cutting short, I am not this soft know-it-all computer geek anymore. Time has arrived to be brutal, ruthless and insane and thats what I am, right from this moment. Some really strange things happened in the recent past, a long rational analysis led to this change in me. Its time to be cruel, literally, so watch out!

Brand new Sony VAIO Rack-mount server

As you all know the screen of my laptop was broken since ages and I was using it a server. Today though, I was dead bored at home, monster was throwing one problem after another if I start gaming and I had no TV series to watch. The laptop on the other had was sitting idle coz I de-commissioned it as I couldn’t get wireless to ‘not crash‘ my router. If I had to put it on a wired connection, well let’s just say, there was space limitedness. The LCD was redundant it had no use practically, so I removed it.

It took a while to remove the screen, because removing it physically just wasn’t enough. I had to solder some contacts to bypass the monitor circuitry, just to tell the system that there was nothing at the ends of the wires. I had to do this because it was detecting the external monitor as a 2nd monitor and is automatically stretching the output. Well anyway, after I removed it, the laptop looked like one of those dell rack mount servers. Here are the pictures.

I can relate to that. Therefore, I love it.

Word 2007 Test

Well just installed Office 2007, don't ask where I did get it from. Its amazing though. It looks great, feels great, and is much easier to use. Being an irregular Blogger I was always interested in applications integrating blogging, long ago found one or two but they weren't that easy that they could replace the web UI altogether. Word 2007 has it built in now, so its nice that I can write blogs offline save them and then post them. There is one down side to all this though, all the new office applications are huge memory hogs, and even Outlook takes a lot of memory. Even on the monster with 1.5G Dualchannel DDR400 it feels sluggish. Maybe I have to defrag and optimize my sys to see if its any better.

Also finished downloading the new Windows Vista RTM and I'm dying to test it, but there is no way in hell that I would do it on the monster, so lined up Vik's and my dad's sys to test it. Wait, dad's systems got only 512M RAM, damn it, VIK your sys is my only test bed now don't let me down!! I shall get back to playing NFS Carbon now. Yes yes I have exams, screw them. Its Advanced data structures exam the day after anyway. It is an area where I'm so good that if you wake me up in deep sleep and ask me some strange question in that subject I'll probably answer it.

In the end overall reviewing of Office results in a 8/10 rating from me. Good job M$! hope your Vista is better.

Fedora Core 6 + AIGLX.. naicee

I installed Fedora Core 6 on my monster. Finally... after 2 and half years since I bought this babe, I have a dual boot. At the expense of a RAID0 set though.

FC6 is almost same as all the other FCs but... it now has the AIGLX (Accelerated blah blah.. ) which makes it more Vista-ish. I tell you its just amazing. The window animations, the water/rain effects, the whole virtual desktop cube concept.. everything. I would recommend everyone to install it and check it out at least once. Downside though is that the installation and configuration process for AIGLX will take you through a complete Intermediate user tour, a boon and also a bane if you consider the time it takes.

Above all that, I had a serious problem, none of the apps, Yum especially seemed to connect to the internet, except luckily firefox. After hours and hours of troubleshooting, googling foruming, the I diagnosed it as a DNS malfunction on Linux's side. Well Linux has problems with my Router being a DNS forwarded instead of a DNS Server. I took almost 8-9 hours altogether to figure the problem out and solve it. It was only after that I was able to setup AIGLX n other stuff.

I wanted to write a complete tut and a demo on that.. will do that soon ;) just gotta find time.. driving a lot lately...

A Fools' World

Well this I had to write about, It was just too much to take.
Slashdot's Vastu:
From the article:

"Thirty-year-old Smita Narang is rapidly becoming one of India's hottest Web designers. Her method: applying vastu shastra, the Indian counterpart of feng shui, to the online realm. The process entails mapping page attributes - HTML, colors, graphics - to elements like fire, water, and air. 'Any disturbance of these established elements can cause an imbalance in the site that directly affects its business,' Narang says."

A direct proof to prove that there are in fact a lot of fools in the world who believe in this kinda crap. Seriously, aesthetics is what is needed not vastu you fools. I know, I know there is always this butterfly effect but compromising a site design just for the sake of complying with vastu is just ignorant. Same applies to houses, I still don't get the point with houses. I have seen many people build great luxurious mansions and later destroying them just because some jackass vastu shastry told them their house wasn't compliant and that it would cause them bad luck or put them in grave danger of loosing their money.

I have seen my father getting pissed when someone suggested vastu in his contracts, I always wondered what the problem was. Since its reached my domain now, I understand perfectly how lame it is. I can go on and on about how stupid all this is but, if you wanna hear all that. buzz me :P.

Southpark resumed :) but only one episode was good, rest were boring, come on Matt&Trey you can come up with better ideas! make it another season 8 ;)

As Schumacher is now out of F1, my 8 year Schumi fan phase has ended. Luckily my next favourite driver, Kimi, is moving to Ferrari, so he is the man we cheer for next year. I just hope he doesn't carry forward his bad luck from McLaren to Ferrari. 2008 Champ, Kimi, Alonso will never even be seen on the podium, pakka. I gotta get back to playing the RAMBIT scenario in AOE:TC now, the other bitches are waiting.

"Schumi you are my god :)"
" Kimi you are my angel :) "
